Hillbilly Gardens

July 2014 was when we did our massive 22 state, 15 national park road trip. We departed from our home town in Alabama and Paducah, Kentucky was our first scheduled stop. We had planned to spend the night here and visit Hillbilly Gardens and the Superman museum in Metropolis, IL. We ended up getting to Calvert City earlier in the day than we anticipated, so we ended up visiting these 2 attractions before heading north to Marion, IL to spend the night.

Hillbilly Gardens is a free roadside attraction not far off the interstate. When we pulled up, no one else was there and the owners came out to greet us and offer a free guided tour. Now the owners, in our opinion, are quite eccentric... and we don't don't mean that in a bad way. They are passionate about their "art" and want to share every single detail about it with you. While we did want to hear about the attractions origins, we really weren't interested in the nitty gritty details about every aspect of it. Rather than do the same to you here today, we'll just let you browse the pictures for yourself.

If you have an extra 15-30 minutes to spare and you are traveling through Calvert City, Kentucky, you really should take the time to stop and check it out. You probably won't see anything else like it anywhere.

We visited here in 07/2014.
